In 2012 Belgian Journalist Ezra Eeman started journalismtools where he gathers and aggregates tons of tools for the modern (digital) journalist.
Some nice stuff and a lot of must haves!
Watch this slideshow and get an overview of the most handy stuff!
Journalismtools is also on twitter.
Eeman started journalism tools at the City University of New York, Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism founded by Jeff Jarvis en Jeremy Caplan.
Eeman talks about it on denieuwereporter.nl:
I spent six months at CUNY, to do research on all new forms of journalism and especially the possible business models behind it. It soon became apparent that there was a real explosion of new news start- ups. At that time in New York I started ‘pins’ on a Pinterest page.
Then came the idea to collect tools that are useful for journalists:
“At the City University I got data visualization, coding for journalism , storytelling with dslr , and so on. A lot of input I tried to keep organized by bookmarking them on my Journalism Tools page”.
When he returned to Belgium, he noticed that this knowledge was not there so common. “Certainly not at work , where there is only linear tv and less online opportunities. At the time the idea was to create internal newsletters to all journalists at VTM News . With tips, tricks , likes to training and new tools”.
In 2013 Eeman quits his job at VTM .
“Especially because I saw no growth opportunities and I could create little internal renewal. But my passion for journalism was still there and I developed Journalism Tools as a platform for all kind of journalistic multimedia tools. I still want to make it more professional.
Pinterest is fun but also has its limitations. I eventually want to build an easy visual database with tools & resources for the next generation of journalists”.
